The Champagne Saints

Say hello to a rock band that hearkens back to the years before indie rock and nu-metal dominated the scene. Discover The Champagne Saints at their website or Facebook page and buy the album Throwing Hail Marys, released in April 2009.

2008

posted Friday, 2 January 2009
This was an eventful year around the world, obviously...and I see no need to re-hash most of it here.  The United States economy essentially collapsed, the U.S. presidential elections ended with this country shockingly and unimaginably electing its first-ever black president, Israel went back to war, etc etc.

Less obviously, it was an eventful year for me personally.  The year started out almost as horribly as it could have, with the worst personal event of my life occurring in late January.  Even now, it's hard to describe the shock my family went through.  And even now, it's hard to not get emotional when I think about how much he has missed, and how badly I wanted him to see what has gone on in our world since he departed.  I voted twice in the same year.  I began work on a rock album with S and Champagne Saints, a process that is ongoing; this fulfilled a personal dream of mine.  I played more kickball and made more great friends.  I went to more weddings (Kevin/Ina, Farmer/Melissa), and sang at one of them.  I went back to San Francisco and visited Seattle for the first time (getting to spend time with Noah, Maya and Lola in the Northwest).

I'm with a lot of people who feel happy to see 2008 go.  Though I had some great experiences, they were counterbalanced by some horrible ones, so it wasn't exactly what I'd call a banner year.  Here's hoping that 2009 treats us all a lot better.
