Four years ago today, I put up
my very first weblog entry. Back then I used MovableType as my weblog provider, and the header/title was "[my first name]'s Obsidian Potency." Back then, I was finishing my last semester of grad school. Eventually, I would invite others to post along with me, and shorten the title to Obsidian Potency. I knew I had a lot to say, but I had no idea that I'd still be at this with such zeal 4 years later.
So much has grown and changed during that period, both for me and for the site. After the switch to 2.0, OP became less of a diary and more rant, politics and culture-based. The accepted rules of keeping a weblog continue to be changed and refined, and the very real risks and responsibilities associated with what we do is increasingly apparent. Switching to Blog-City was a major transition, and Members-Only made the site more liberating than ever. Honestly, I wish I'd started this sooner.
Regardless of when you started checking out Obsidian Potency, and even if you've only read it a few times, I want to thank you for coming. We're going to keep writing, and we hope you'll continue to come along for the ride.
