Black Comedy

posted Thursday, 8 November 2007

I missed this great article in the Post when it first was published, but I thought it would be good to link it now.  It was penned by Stephen Colbert's "black friend."  My favorite line:

"I cornered a "Daily Show" writer, doing my best to get the inside track on a possible actor/writer gig. We broached the subject of black correspondents. He told me that they "tried a black guy once, but it didn't work out." I nearly threw my imported beer in his face. Tried it once and it didn't work? You say that about Toyotas, not a whole race of people."

Remember, this comes from the employee of a show that appeals mainly to left-wingers.  Stories like this why I laugh when people say, "Why does everything have to be about race?"  or "Can you just not take a race angle for once?"  For some people, life is a 'race angle'...whether they want it to be or not.
