This kickball season, I switched from Cobra Kai to
Big Kids so I could continue to play on Thursday nights instead of Wednesday nights; the title of this entry is our "battle cry." Big Kids are a team that is steeped in at least 7 years of adult kickball history, and until this season was led by adult-kickball elder statesman JP. This season,
we finished 1st overall in the 16-team Capital Conference with a record of 8-1 (our one loss coming in the first game of the season, which I missed). We had some dominant wins, with some come-from-behind victories sprinkled in as well.
Now the regular season is over. The playoffs begin this Thursday with 1st-round games, and end this Saturday with second round, quarters, semis and finals. If we win our first playoff game, we could end up facing any number of good teams in the second round. If we make it any farther, there is a decent chance we could face my old team, Cobra Kai. I've toyed with the idea of bringing both my Big Kids shirt and my old Cobra Kai team shirt to Super Saturday (assuming we win our first round game), pulling a pro-wrestling style heel turn, revealing that my loyalties still remain with the team in black...but then of course I'd never risk jinxing either team by presuming victory and bringing both shirts. Nor would I sabotage the team I've played with all season long. I like the people on Cobra Kai, but I'm a Big Kid now.
