This op-ed in the Washington Post outlines an honest-to-goodness, accurate example of a minority using the 'race card'. The accusation of using the race card far outpaces its actual use, but this one is legit.
No way is Roland Burris' predicament comparable to slavery or lynching. Sorry, but it has nothing to do with race; rather, it has everything to do with Blagojevich. This isn't "plantation politics." And Rep. Bobby Rush ought to be ashamed of himself for suggesting that it does. Talk about hyperbole. Rush probably doesn't know -- or doesn't care -- that his accusations and insinuations in this situation degrade us all, and make it difficult for minorities to engage whites in any legitimate conversation about race that might involve actual discrimination, stereotyping or disparate impact.
To Bobby Rush: thanks for setting black people back a decade or two. Maybe you can be repaid by getting voted out of office.
