I saw Ray last night with Waweru, Karim and Amelia. The first thing I said afterwards was to Waweru: "After this, Jamie Foxx won't be doing Booty Call movies anymore."

You've heard that Jamie Foxx deserves an Oscar, and he does. His Ray Charles character was perfect. He was so convincing that I forgot he was Jamie Foxx. The supporting cast was also excellent.

Charles' life doesn't need much embellishment, but the movie provides unique retrospectives on his life with numerous, yet tatesful flashback sequences. In this manner, we are treated to following the man's life as an adult while also seeing the most influential moments of his childhood.

The only reason I didn't give the movie 5 stars is because it lacked continuity. Biographical movies are probably a bitch to edit, and by the end I found myself wondering about the supporting players that were involved in the movies numerous subplots; we never really learn what happen to them. I'm hoping there is, or will be, an extended-version DVD that will help to answer those questions.

And perhaps the most positive sign of all is this: going into the film, I was mildly interested in collecting some Ray Charles. After seeing this movie, I MUST start collecting the man's work. His music is even more impressive than this film.
