EXTENDED BODY:
These are, in my opinion, some of the best hip-hop songs ever recorded. They are absolute essentials in my music collection. Begin!
Deltron 3030: “3030” - Deltron 3030 is an album that I've dubbed "the 'OK Computer' of hip-hop". 'Nuff said.
Mos Def: “Ms. Fat Booty” Nothing more to say about Mos beyond what I've said already.
The Roots: “Essaywhuman!!” This song shows both The Roots' rhyming ability and their live-performance skills.
Jay-Z w/Eminem: “Renegade” - Eminem produced this track himself, and he drops some of the flyest verses of all-time in this song. It's not a sample, either.
Ozomatli: “Coming War”
Ozomatli: “Cut Chemist Suite”
Jurassic 5: “The Influence” - All of these songs are influenced by Chali 2na, Jurassic 5's best rapper. They are all original as well.
Eric B. and Rakim: “Microphone Fiend” - Rakim is the best MC of all time. Period.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard: “Recognize”
Wu-Tang Clan: “Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber” - Wu-Tang's influence on hip-hop wil never be forgotten. The Gza and Inspectah Deck are two of rap's best lyricists.
Slick Rick: “A Children’s Story” - Without Slick Rick, there would be no Snoop Dogg.
Run-D.M.C.: “King of Rock” - Do I even need to say anything about Run-DMC and the late Jam Master Jay? Legends.
Digital Underground: “Doowutchyalyke” (get the 8:51 version!) - This is my favorite hip-hop song EVER. And that's saying something. No samples here, either. All original.
A lot more to come...
