Eva's wedding week was a spectacular success. After the mishap at my house, I drove to Philly and crashed out. On the way there, I called the woman whose room I rented and asked her to keep an eye on the house for me.

Ed, Regina and I left Monday for Michigan, and arrived at Cindy's (Schoolgirl's) apartment in Ypsilanti on Monday night. Tuesday, we went into Ann Arbor and did a bit of looking around and shopping (Regina had never been to U of M before). It's always good to come back to Michigan, and it's even better to show someone around who's never been there before. Ed and I replenished our Michigan gear at Steve and Barry's. Unfortunately, we had to cut our visit short that day to pick up our tuxedoes and go to the rehearsal dinner.

The rehearsal/dinner was terrific, and I got to meet Doug (the groom)'s parents, as well as the rest of the wedding party. This included Eva's two cousins (both female and very attractive), who apparently knew a lot more about us than Ed and I knew about them. It was a bit disconcerting, but flattering at the same time. I wondered why Eva hadn't shared the same level of info about them - but I'm guessing she was a bit busy trying to squeeze a wedding in between semesters while in med school.

Let me add that the Catholic church/reception complex in Livonia (Plymouth? I don't remember) was BY FAR the MOST BEAUTIFUL wedding site I've EVER SEEN! It was so spectacular that I thought, "Boy, every wedding I've been to and every wedding I will attend from now on will be compared to this place...and most won't even come close!"

New Year's Eve allowed us a more relaxed day in Ann Arbor. I got to eat at the Maize-and-Blue Deli, one of my favorite restaurants and also the same building as my undergrad house. Regina said it was the best sandwich she'd ever had - and I was not surprised, since their sandwiches are un-fucking-believable. We went back to Steve and Barry's, where I got Ed a mug to replace the one he had bought and broken by accident the night before.

That night was our big NYE party at the Necto in Ann Arbor. Ed was born on New Year's Day, so it was a double celebration. My shirt was a raging success; I got lots of compliments, and lost count of the number of random (and non-random) women who came up to me just so they could touch it (gee, you'd think I planned it that way...). The pictures don't begin to do justice to the debauchery of the evening. We even drank Cristal in our limo (FYI: Cris is totally overrated). Eva, Doug and Eva's cousins even showed up, since they needed something to do that night. It was nice to get a chance to hang out with them before they got hitched (and, of course, nice to hang out with her cousins again).

We spent New Year's Day recovering, checked into a hotel closer to the church, and watched Michigan get stomped by USC in the Rose Bowl. It's obvious that USC was the better team this year, and that's really all I have to say about the game. That day, I opened the rear door to Ed's car where our luggage was...and the mug I had bought the day before fell out and broke before I could catch it. It was the second mug we had broken in as many days. In a way, it was hilarious.

The wedding took place the following day. It was a surprisingly quick ceremony. Ed and I were ushers, and I was honored to do a reading. I think people actually paid attention to mine. To my great surprise and anger, my camera - which had done fine until this point in the trip - stopped working right before the wedding started. I was pissed, but Regina took a lot of pictures.

At the reception, those of us in the wedding party got to walk out to the Empire theme from Star Wars! That had to be Doug's choice. Hilarious.

Dinner was excellent, and we proceeded to dance for the next 3 or 4 hours. I got very, very lucky at this wedding because there were at least 4 single (and pretty) women in attendance. This meant that I had no shortage of people to dance with, thus avoiding the most awkward and annoying aspect of not bringing a date to a wedding. I danced with all of them, and exchanged contact info with one of the bridesmaids and one of Eva's cousins.

The next day, we left. Driving through Ohio is one of the most mind-numbing experiences. I always forget just how banal it is. No surprise that Michigan's biggest rival is in such a dull state. Seriously, it makes sense that we hate Ohio State so much - just drive through there once and you'll see why.

Anyway, we made it home without too much trouble and I drove home from Philly today. It was a great trip, and I can't wait to get my own (and Regina's) pictures developed. I can barely believe that I actually have to go to work tomorrow.
