Shoe Bitchin'

posted Thursday, 20 July 2006
Just when I thought it was safe to stop being a shoe-whore, my brown shoes have totally failed me.  And my off-white slip-on casuals are really showing their age.

The brown sneaker-style casuals I wear now are Type Z Watchouts from Zappos, shown here.  Let's just say that they are poor build quality, and they don't age well.  They also don't look like they do online; all the highlighted portions of the shoe are darker in real life.   The sad thing is that I got them in April, and they look worse than some shoes that I've had for 2+years.

I am thinking ot replacing them with these, these or these.  The last is another Type Z, and after my last experience I think it's probably a good idea for me to stay away from those.  I like the first ones a lot, but the second ones are more formal without being too formal.  You can probably tell that I'm going for lighter shades of brown this time; they look better and add more to an outfit than dark brown, which is too conservative.  Of the ones I've listed, any preferences?

Also, my bone-colored Aldos have worn out; as it happens, off-white doesn't mask scuffs very well, and I've worn them a ton since getting them last September in New York.  That was almost a year ago, and it shows.  I am thinking of replacing them with an identical pair.  These slip-ons had several advantages: they were just nice enough to get away with in a business casual environment, they could be worn with black or brown-based outfits, they provided a different color from the standard brown and black without being too out there, and they were comfortable while being a big hit with people who saw them.  I'm looking for a trendier alternative, but all the ones I've seen look too casual compared to these.  So same ones, here I come.

That is, once I can afford them.  Which should be very soon.
