I saw TV On The Radio on Wednesday night at the 9:30 Club, which was a pretty fun show. They are black (except for the lead guitar player), so maybe I'm biased. They reminded Josh of Tom Waits and Radiohead, and me of a teeny bit of Living Color. Random note: I'd never heard a single song by them, but Josh offered me a ticket at the last minute and I of course said yes. Anyway, I'm going to start listening to their albums.
I also saw
Kenna on Friday night at the Rock and Roll Hotel. He was FUCKING AWESOME. I am one of those underground, dedicated Kenna fans that link speaks about. I'm not really sure why I like him - I don't listen to any other act that he reminds most people of, and he's basically impossible to classify other than in the 'pop' genre. Not pop like boy/girl band pop, but pop with some substance. His biggest influence was U2's
The Joshua Tree. Anyway, he's coming out with a new album soon, and I'm curious to see what his follow-up will be like.
