Another Angry Black Man: Martin Luther King, Jr.

Here is an insightful article that makes many of the same points made in the previous OP entry about Obama's association with an angry pastor -- and elaborates on them. 

E.J. Dionne goes a step further than I did: he lists some quotes taken from a man that is a hero in the eyes of a majority of Americans: Martin Luther King, Jr. 

King Jr. once said: "God didn't call America to engage in a senseless, unjust war. . . . And we are criminals in that war. We've committed more war crimes almost than any nation in the world, and I'm going to continue to say it. And we won't stop it because of our pride and our arrogance as a nation. But God has a way of even putting nations in their place."

MLK didn't sound too patriotic there, did he?  Good thing for him there was no YouTube around in 1968 for Dr. King to be "exposed" as a "fraud," I suppose.   Yes, I'm being sarcastic.  This is simply more proof that Pastor Wright's words aren't really very shocking to a significant number of blacks living in America today, and serves as yet another illustration of the racial divide in this country.  In the eyes of most white people, MLK was 'one of the good ones' - yet even he wasn't immune to speaking in tones that sounded borderline seditious.

The use of race to divide people has become a glaring issue in this presidential campaign.   It's always been a nauseating practice to me, but these conversations and incidents make it more topical than normal even by OP standards.
