Right before I left for the West, I watched my friend Farmer get married. He tied the knot at the DC World War 1 Memorial, a memorial that I didn't even know existed on the National Mall. It was a beautiful day, and I got to catch up with a group of grade-school guys that I don't often get to see.
It was a somewhat emotional event for me -- actually, it was the first big function like that I'd been to since my brother passed away, and I hadn't seen many of these guys face-to-face since before that happened. It's always hard to face people you know for the first time, especially when some of them knew my brother. But ultimately, it was great to see them. Many had children of their own, and I got to spend time around babies that aren't mine (a frequent favorite pastime of mine). We ended up going out after the reception, I ended up spending the night at Joe's parents' house, and we met up for brunch in Bethesda the next morning before people started to leave. I took some pictures and had a blast...then had to prepare to fly out to S.F. for my big return.
