And check out the truth about from Slate: http://slate.msn.com/id/2076468/

So let me get this straight: According to CNN (a news source that I trust about as far as I can throw one of their news trucks), North Korea is threatening to go to war if any economic sanctions are laid at its feet due to the country's non-compliance with nuclear disarmament.

Now I'm sure there's probably more to this story. But I find it amazing how many new reasons nations have found to begin people-killing conflicts. It seems perfectly reasonable to use economic pressure to win political battles; after all, it's what tha Alabama bus boycott achieved on a smaller level in the 1960's. Would rather have the , and just attack them instead? Not that that would ever happen, as Slate informs us, due to the ramifications. How about just not developing nukes anymore - isn't that easier? Don't worry, I have the same complaint about the , and any other nation that has resisted signing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in recent years.

The big difference is, North Korea ALREADY AGREED to abandon their nuclear program, and is now violating that treaty. I'm trying to be sympathetic to Pyongyang , but their government isn't giving me much to work with on this one.

Not a lot to sympathize with there. has the unhappy distinction of hosting the world's last Stalinist regime. Whereas Stalin starved the Ukrainian kulak landholders, Kim seems intent on starving his own people - some Westerners have charged him with denying food from groups with suspect loyalties. After the regime falls, we will discover some horrible things there.
