EXTENDED BODY:
Ice-T: “Pulse of the Rhyme”
Ice Cube: “When Will They Shoot?”
Dr. Dre: “The Next Episode”
Dr. Dre/Eminem: “Guilty Conscience” - A little West Coast flava. Ice-T, though dated by today's standards, still has some classics. You just have to appreciate that his style is too simple to hold up to our new standards. Dr. Dre and Ice Cube have put out a ton of classics, but these are some of my favorites. None of Dre's stuff is sampled.

Big Punisher: “Dream Shatterer” - Fat Joe maintains that the late Big Pun is the finest lyricist to ever pick up the mic. Listening to this song, It's hard to disagree with him.

Mystical: “Danger” - He is the new James Brown of hip-hop...and the Neptunes made him that way, thank god. This song is great.

That's it for my list. I could go on and on, but I's soon start to bore myself. Take the time to check out some of this stuff if you can. It's well worth it.

So Jide...

I think this is quite a list. But I'm disappointed that you ignored an artist as influential as Ja Rule. Let's be honest, without Ja Rule, there'd be no Ashanti, and what would the R&B world be without her?

If you recall, when we were first introduced to Ja, he mesmerized us with his witty lyrics ["It ain't even a question
how my dough flows, you good if you got those, Lady, ride in your bump, like a Tahoe"] while his sound was quite revolutionary.

In fact, it's artists like Mr. Rule who help us expunge our impression that rappers are nothing more than wannabe, wanksta thugs who just harshly yell over generic beats. His unique flow puts artists like Busta to shame. Furthermore, few of your favorite artists have ever demonstrated the versatility that Ja has. He singlehandedly revolutionized the Rap/R&B Duet genre by collaborating with all the talented female artists of our time. Did Slick Rick ever do that? Did Chali 2Na ever have a #1 pop hit? I rest my case.

All I'm trying to say is that I think you need to be more open in your analysis of *top* rap acts...

Peace brotha!
