"Cos": He said so

posted Monday, 21 February 2005

Check out this very in-depth look at Bill Cosby's recent history, including details from his recent "poor black people need to stop blaming white people for all their problems" tour and the recent allegations of sexual misconduct by two women.

As a result of these charges, his tour seems to have stopped -- which is a tragedy. As the article alludes, it really wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that these charges were a conspiracy against him -- and black ideologues would have to be at the top of the list of suspects. After all, though groups like the Nation of Islam have done a lot of positive work in black communities, they've also been excellent at finding scapegoats for black problems (take Jews, for instance).

Unfortunately, there are whites who would also benefit from Bill's new reticence to speak out on these issues -- namely, white supremacists and other racists who want to keep black people subjugated.

Complicating all of this is the fact that Bill's record with women isn't exactly clean as a whistle. Due to his own checkered past with women, the accusations that have been made don't seem all that far removed from reality.

Sigh. I really hope he does get back in the saddle. Despite its flaws, his message is one that black people in America need to hear.
