BODY:
We got our power back on Saturday morning, after an outage lasting about 36-48 hours. Some people still don't have theirs. As for poor people who still don't have power, they are really screwed. If they spent $100 on groceries last week and still don't have power, they probably had to throw a lot of food away - and if you're low-income, you just can't replace that money. Yikes.
People still without power are starting to get mad - and for good reason, in my opinion. Hurricane or no hurricane, it's been 4 days now. Just one month ago, D.C saw severe thunderstorms that knocked out some people's power for a week. Does this mean that people will lose power for several days after every major storm? Seems a little bit absurd for the nation's capital, doesn't it? Obviously, the infrastructure of the power distribution system has to be changed. This may include the very expensive option of burying power lines. But something has to be done, because it's a bit absurd when the president goes to Camp David because a storm's coming.
