So Andrew and I start talking, and we don't hang up. Everyone involved is up WAY past bedtime already. The game seems over; I'm just hoping the Colts get some points back by making Tampa Bay turn it over. But I know the Colts will be taking more chances, since by this point there are under 4 minutes left in the game. Which means the Colts will be more likely to help Tampa score, burying me even further.
Then something crazy happens - something neither I nor Andrew had counted on.
Indianapolis scores a touchdown.
Then recovers an onside kick.
Then scores again. Suddenly, the score is 35-28, and there are still over 2 minutes left in the game.
Did you remember than defenses lose fantasy points after they give up 20 real points? This rule becomes very crucial to the story.
Suddenly, Andrew's lead has begun to shrink. It's back down to 1.5 points. He lost 2 because his defense had now given up 28 points. If they give up 35, his defense loses 2 more points, and I'm back in the lead.
Assuming, of course, that nothing else happens.
The Colts stop the Bucs, and Tampa has to give the ball up to Indy again. I get pissed, because in my mind this robs Indy's Defense of a chance to score, and leaves them at risk of giving Tampa's D more points. You've got to love fantasy football.
The something even more unbelievable happens.
The Colts complete a long pass play to Marvin Harrison. Then Indy SCORES ANOTHER TOUCHDOWN. With only 53 seconds left.
Against the best defense in the NFL, and the Super Bowl Champions, Indianapolis scored 21 points in under 4 minutes.
Andrew and I are freaking out on the phone to each other, with Daina listening. It's past midnight.
Tampa gets the ball for one last try. They get into field goal range. Indianapolis partially blocks the kick; it's no good. Three points for me, right? Wrong. Yahoo doesn't give it to me. WHAT THE HELL?!? Did they not block it enough or something??
We're going to overtime.
