The Passion Revisited

posted Sunday, 10 April 2005

Now that I have all the OP 1.0 material back, I can put up retrospective entries like this one.

Back when The Passion of the Christ was scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters, I put up an entry on 1.0 expressing my concern that the movie would be an inaccurate demonization of the Jews' role in Christ's death. I also warned that it might incite violence against Jews due to the history of passion plays having a similar effect in the past.

As you can see from the old comments following the entry, people thought I was being ridiculous at the time. Shit, after actually seeing the movie I even thought I was being ridiculous at the time.

As it turns out, however, I may have been right after all.
