I'm going to talk about this week's 24 now, and I'm going to delve into X3 as well. And so, for the benefit of those with flash photography...this entry will match the background. Highlight it if you want to read:
Okay, so I gotta admit: these last two episodes were exciting. Very exciting. I was on the edge of my seat, and it was dramatic. Significant shit happened. Which is good. (By the way, Wikipedia has a cool "silent clock" entry, and Fark has an occasionally-hilarious 24 discussion thread).
But I'm still pissed. The show continues to do the same shit the same way. They create one implausible plot twist after another, and that would be fine...if I hadn't seen all these twists before in the same show. You know this is the fifth time in 5 seasons that CTU has been infiltrated? This is supposed to be a secure government building. Is this really possible? From the looks of things, CTU is about as secure as America's airports, seaports, chemical plants and nuclear plants. Which is to say, not very. CTU gets broken into once, okay. Twice, I can accept that. But 5 times in 5 seasons is either incredibly uncreative writing, or a metaphor for America's own insecure facilities.
This is also about the third CTU director to lose his shit. Everyone knew theat the lost keycard would come back to haunt the show. But Samwise/Rudy's unwillingness to report that it went missing until 4 HOURS AFTER THE FACT is just ludicrous. Even assuming it slipped his mind for an hour, he was talking to his sister enough that anyone reasonable who worked for a government facility would just report it. You know what they do when you ose a keycard at most high-tech buildings? They deactivate the old one and issue you a new one. Would that have been so hard? Would it have been so humiliating to admit? Now Samwise is probably going to face a firing squad...or simply get killed off next week, as he makes 'the ultimate sacrifice' to redeem himself. It's either him or Tony, and you can take that to the bank. The only question is whether Tony kills off RoboCop (Henderson) first.
Kim's presence at CTU is irritating, and I'd hope that she got killed off if it weren't for the fact that her death would mean that Jack's life would officially lose all meaning, assuming it hasn't already. But the worst was killing of Edgar. Edgar! I was upset, but not just for the typical emotional attachment reasons. I am mad because the computer nerds are the most realistic character portrayals on the show and have been from the beginning. I never want them to die. [Especially the bitches, because they're hot. When Edgar sent Carrie to die, I was like "Damn. Another fine piece of 24 tail bites the dust." But I digress.] The only people I wanted to see die less than Edgar are Curtis, Chloe and President Logan.
Speaking of the show's overwhelmed leader, that is actually the most intriguing and unpredictable subplot they've got going in the show right now. i have no idea what's going to happen, and it's a very different dynamic from the Palmer White House. This is the only area of the show where they actually decided to do something new. And it's working; the only thing that didn't was when Mike caught Mrs. Logan red-handed in the act of actually holding the hand of the man that saved her life less than an hour ago. Heaven forbid! Oh, the scandal!
I nearly wet myself when the Russian president stormed away from Logan. They now have us as paranoid as Logan; what if they find out that Logan knew? Can you say World War III, boys and girls? If the Russian president finds out and serious shit doesn't happen as a result, I will oficially give up on the show.
So that's my stand. Are you in good hands?
Oh, and about the X3 trailer: I am really excited about the plot of the movie. The story looks good. But I am very concerend with the leaked information we have seen on the Internet thus far. "They" say the studio is rushing everything big time to make sure X3 comes out before Superman does. Frankly, the costumes for Beast and Juggernaut so lend credence to this claim, though the sophisticated appearannce of Angel does not. I just hope those are just rumors, and that they stay true to Singer's direction and the last two stories.links: digg this del.icio.us technorati reddit
