I am in Jersey right now, but I'd be remiss not to mention the fact that I am going to the first-ever Virgin Music Festival at the Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore on September 23. It's the only show in the United States; this is not a tour. Bands will include The Who, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Gnarls Barkley, The Raconteurs, Kasabian, Drive-By Truckers, and a whole bunch of other acts. As you can imagine, tickets are EXTREMELY expensive. But I thought it was worth it. For one thing, I'e felt strangely detached from new music ever since I left for South Africa in 2004, and this is a good way to get exposed to several contemporary acts at once. Second, I now have a reason to go and get at least one album by every bad that will be there (besides the ones I already had). I have no choie but to try new things this way. So I'm really looking forward to it,..and snce the capacity is about 60,000 or so, I'm sure tickets are still available.
