So I'm done moving, at long last. My roommate E helped me move my computer cart with her minivan, so I didn't have to disassemble anything. That was nice of her...I felt bad, because she doesn't have a zone sticker so she had to drive around for quite some time trying to find a legal, unzoned parking spot past 11 at night. After I carried the last of my big-ass things into my medium-ass-sized room, I promptly drove to the police station, got a temporary zone parking permit, came back...and parked in the same rock-star spot I got earlier, right in front of the house.
E:
"So it's gonna take you a long time to unpack all these boxes, isn't it?"Me:
"Trust me -- it isn't nearly as bad as it looks."A lot of my boxes are from two prior moves: to Arlington/home, to Miami, and back. I didn't bother to un-pack and re-pack, so there's probably stuff that I shouldn't have been hanging on to. More important, a lot of the boxes weren't filled to capacity. Since I'd already made my bed on a prior visit, I set up my alarm clock, phone charger, hung my hanging work/dress clothes, whipped out some casual clothes and bed clothes to shelve in my closet, read Civil War #5 and New Avengers #23 and went to sleep.
This morning was my first commute from my 6-bedroom, 3-bath house. Aside from having to wait for the shower, it was all good. 30 minutes door-to-door from my house to work. Try doing that from Potomac, MD!
So now I have a lot of unpacking to do. Not to mention grocery and booze shopping. Oh - and there's a party at my house tomorrow night, being thrown by the one undergrad amongst the 6 of us (she is 23, so she's not kid-young). The invite list was about 450 people long.
It's so nice to be able to look forward to these things again. I'm not taking any of it for granted. The Negro has landed in D.C.
