[Review] Shrek The Third

Shrek The Third

I saw Shrek The Third two Fridays ago with my College Park damies (if you don't know what a damie is, reference Pootie Tang).   It was aaight.

The movie was replete with adult gags that had me laughing well after the scenes were over.  All the voice actors (Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas, Mike Myers, John Cleese, Eric Idle, and many more) were at the top of their games.  Particularly funny scenes included Cinderella compluslively scrubbing the floor of her jail cell; Snow White attacking some gate guards with cute little birds while singing Led Zeppelin's "The Immigrant Song"; a school assembly complete with frankincense-and-myrrh-heads in a minibus-looking coach, plus a banner reading "Just Say Nay"; and the Gingerbread Man's "life-flashing-before-his-eyes" scene.  All these scenes caused guffaws long after the movie was over.

Unfortunately, the movie itself was mediocre at best.  The screenwriters and plot for this flick was mailed in worse than Dead Man's Chest.  It is little more than an excuse to combine some familiar characters with a series of great gags.

I think the reviewer in the Express newspaper put it best: 'Shrek The Third is an interesting paradox: it manages to be extremely funny while also being a bad movie.'  I couldn't have said it better myself.  It gets 3 reels; wait for the DVD.
