How's work, you ask? Amazing. It really seems too good to be true, and I've heard that sentiment echoed by my co-workers when they talk about their feelings when they first started. People are understanding, even-tempered and easy to work with. My work is challenging, fulfilling and worthwhile. My team is small, but the importance of our role is huge.
The building is amazing. The food in the cafeteria is good. There are a lot of conveniences offered. My benefits kicked in a couple of days after I started. Last week, I worked until late for two nights in a row. And you know what? It felt good.
The car is great. My apartment is very nice, and my neighborhood is likeable. I went swimming at the beach, which is located 3 blocks from my apartment. The only downside is that I still cannot get into my mailbox, and my washer/dryer still hasn't been installed.
Otherwise, I feel like Kanye when he says "I must have died in an accident, 'cause this must be heaven!"
The big bummer is that I have only one real friend out here, and she is engaged and also doesn't know anyone here. That's been hard, but I'm pretty confident that it'll change; I'm trying to get involved in local service and clubs, etc. The people are beautiful, but there is a lot of vanity to go along with it. I've never seen more Hummers per capita anywhere else I've been.
I've started to update my wardrobe a bit - I needed more work clothes, and more warm-weather clothes for my new environment. I also just ordered a new computer! My company has a discount program with Dell; on top of that, Dell offered an additional 34% off to us through Sept. 30. So I ordered their top-of-the-line desktop, loaded it down with features, and saved more than $1000 on it. With any luck at all, it will last me a long, long time. Finally, I'll be able to IM and use my iPod among many other things. I'm stoked.
Finally, there's a new category on the site. I think you can figure out why.
