Cobra Kai, my former kickball team, won the People's Cup on Saturday afternoon by beating DC Detention 1-0. Cynically I thought to myself "Maybe I should leave Big kids, so
they can win the trophy next summer." Not that I'm bitter or anything. Well, maybe a little. But I'm definitely much more happy for my former teammates. They worked hard, and they deserved to win.
The final game was incredibly dull, and featured a pitcher's duel between the two best kickball pitchers I've ever seen. the only run scored was a controversial overthrow that could have been called an out.
The bottom-seeded team that beat us, the Humpday All-Stars, ended up winning their quarterfinal game in convincing fashion before losing to DC Detention in the semis. That made our loss to Humpday much easier to swallow. Well, that and the end-of-season party, which was a blast -- and was a shining example of what I most enjoy about kickball. The scene isn't for everyone, but I genuinely enjoy the company of a wide variety of people.
