Every weekday, I drive to a Metro station and take the train to work. And every weekday, the same woman is there between 5 and 8 o'clock. She is skinny, looks much younger than most Metro employees I've seen, and appears to be of South Asian descent (her slight accent sort of implies this as well).
And for whatever reason, this woman keeps flirting with me.
I don't know how else to describe it. At first, she would make a show of saying hello to me whenever I used my pay card and passed through the gate. Then she moved on to conversations -- apparently, she thought I was someone else (a likely story), she asked where I was from, she asked where I worked, and she continues to ask how I'm doing...and all with a big smile. To my knowledge, she doesn't put on this production with everybody.
The weirdness is that I have no idea what to do with this information. Whenever I've seen her, I am in my car on my way out of the parking structure, where she is working at the time. When there are no cars behind me, she tries to strike up a conversation -- and I have no idea what to say to her. Since she is often preoccupied with work or a book, and because the proces sof exiting the facility is entriely automated, I have taken to just getting through the gate before she realizes it's me. Or if she makes eye contact, I smile and say hi without slowing down. Maybe you think that I'm some kind of wussy, but what am I supposed to do? Get out of my car and block traffic? Stay at the gate and block traffic? Slip her my phone numer? Ask for hers? I don't even know if I find her interesting or attractive. It's just a strange situation that seems to have no immediate endpoint.
