Wii Weekend before the last

posted Monday, 22 January 2007
I forgot that two weekends ago was a long weekend, so I decided to take an evening trip up to New York Monday night.  As it stands, I probably should have gone to Chicago.  Anyway, my job allows me to travel for free, so it was no biggie.  In NYC, I hung with Dave and Diddy, met up with Ashley for dinner, dropped by Hooters for wings -- and played a Nintendo Wii for the first time ever.

Believe it or not, the thing is amazing...and I'm by no means a video-game junkie.  The controllers have accelerometers and motion detectors, which make the virtual tennis, home run derby and bowling games a lot more virtual.  In fact, I was breaking a sweat during the tennis and home run derby simulations.  Now that Nintendo has joined the companies that create video games that make you sweat, the Wii might be the best thing for video gaming and the obesity crisis since the home version of Dance Dance Revolution.

By the way, it's true: a family is suing a radio station for sponsoring a water-drinking contest to win a Nintendo Wii that resulted in the death of one of the participants.  And they deserve to be sued, because drinking too much water can indeed be deadly.   On the other hand, the Wii might help you lose weight.
